Road Map: GL Period-End Closing

Use the GL Period-End Closing (GME) program to review pending transactions (i.e., those that must be completed before the period can be closed), close an accounting period and print period-end financial statements. For the last period in the accounting year, the program also closes the year. See Background for more information.

Before you run this program each time

You should run these programs:  

  • All active registers must be updated for the period.

  • (Optional) General Journal Entry (GIP) to post profit manually.

Before you run this program the first time

You should run these programs:

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (General Ledger Options) to select the YTD transaction history? option.

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Enterprise Options) to select a date display format for your enterprise, Branch Maintenance (TBM) to select a date display format for your branch, or User Maintenance (UIM) to select a date display format for an individual user.

  • Financial Reports Header Maintenance (GHH) to set up headers for financial reports.

  • GL Account Maintenance (GMM) to set up set up GL organization codes and GL accounts, including a profit account.

  • Output Device Maintenance (XDM) to set up the output devices that you plan to use.

  • Date-Output Device Maintenance (ZE) to select your default output device and set whether you can override that device.

After you run this program

You will most likely run these programs:

  • Closed Period Adjustments (GIC) to enter a general journal adjustment or correction to a closed period and print the Journal Adjustments Register.

  • GL History Maintenance (GHM) to enter a summary total for a closed period.
