Serial Tag Cycle Count

Use the Serial/Tag Entry (RFHSE) program to scan or enter pre-printed physical inventory tags with counts for multiple serial numbers.  See Background and Road Map for more information.

Instructions are written for Keypad mode. If you are operating in Scan mode respond with Return, Enter, Tab, or line feed where required.

The program displays cycles in progress:

  1. Enter the number of a cycle in progress.

  2. Scan data for these fields:

Field Name

Type / Max Length

Action / Description

Tag

Required
6 alphanumeric

Scan the number of the pre-printed tag.

If you scan a tag with an existing quantity, the program prompts Tag already entered, Count xx.  Add/Void/Cncl/Del, where xx is the number of serial numbers previously counted for this tag.

Scan A to add more serial numbers to the tag. The tag status is marked re-opened.

Scan V to void the tag number. This will reverse all the counts (sets the line status for each serial number to Open) and voids the tag. The tag number may not be re-used.

Scan C to cancel the entry and return to the Tag field to enter a different tag number.

Scan D to delete the tag. This will reverse all counts for serial numbers counted for this tag, and delete the tag.  The tag number may then be counted again.

Item

Required
24 alphanumeric

Scan the number of the item that was counted.

A valid entry displays the item's displays the item's description and stocking unit of measure.

Loc

Conditional
2 alphanumeric
8 alphanumeric

Scan the item's current location in one or two scans, depending on your login branch setting.

If your option setting requires two scans, the program requires an entry for at least one of the two fields.

The prompts that follow depend on the Serial range active option in RF Program Options.

If Serial range active is selected:

   Fr ser

Required
16 alphanumeric

Enter/scan the first serial number to count in the range.

   To ser

Required
16 alphanumeric

Enter/scan the last serial number ito count in the range or leave blank to count only the first serial number you entered/scanned.

All serial numbers in the range you enter must be in the cycle. For example, if serial numbers 1-5 and 7-10 need to be counted, you cannot enter a range from 1 to 10 since 6 is not in the cycle.

   Ctrl qty

Required
9 alphanumeric

The control total you enter must match the number of serial numbers in the range you specify. For example, if serial numbers 1-5 need to be counted, enter 5 as the control total since there are 5 serial numbers starting from 1 and ending at 5 (i.e., the range includes the starting and ending numbers).

If the range is successfully processed, the program reports how many serial numbers were counted. If an error occurs (e.g., a serial number was already counted) while processing the range, the program reports that the range was partially counted.

If Serial range active is blank (not selected):

   Ctrl qty

Required
9 alphanumeric

Enter the total number of serial numbers counted for this tag. When the serial number scan is complete, it will be compared to this total as a verification step.

   Ser

Required
16 alphanumeric

Scan the serial number. It is only necessary to scan the control numbers that are physically in stock.

Continue scanning serial numbers until you are finished with this tag. Tab at a blank Ser prompt to complete the tag.

After each scan, the program displays a running total of the number scanned and the control total.c

If you enter a serial number that is not in this location, you are prompted: Add this ser (Y/N)?  Verify your entry: if it is valid, scan Y; otherwise scan N to correct the entry.

When you tab on a blank serial number to complete the tag, the tag is marked as Counted.

If the total serial numbers scanned does not match the Ctrl qty you entered, a warning message is displayed: Totals not equal. You should determine if not all serial numbers were scanned or the initial count was incorrect.

  1. Scan Enter to on the Ser prompt to return to the Tag prompt to enter another tag count.

  2. Scan Enter on the Tag prompt to return to the Cycles in progress.

  3. Scan Enter to return to the menu.
