Obligate Items

When you click Obligate, you can assign specific inventory items to a sales order, transfer, or manufacturing order.

The program displays these fields:

BMI move qty

If this is a component on a manufacturing order and the Bulk move item? field is selected in this item's record in the Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) program, the quantity entered in the BMI movement qty field in that program displays; this is the quantity to be moved to the shop floor

WC location

If this component is to be backflushed by operation sequence, the Warehouse code and Bin location fields from the Work Center Maintenance (WCM) program for the work center used by that sequence

The program displays these fields for each control number or location:

You can select multiple lots if split lots are allowed for the item (in Enterprise Item Maintenance) and the customer (in Customer Maintenance) allows split lots.

Wh

For a warehouse/bin controlled item, the locations that stock this item

Bin loc

For a warehouse/bin controlled item, the bins where this item is stocked

Available

The quantity of this item that can be obligated: On hand + Floor stock - Obligated

Obligated

The quantity that has been obligated for this order or transfer

Orig obligation

The quantity that was originally obligated

  1. Click Sel to the left of the control number or branch location that you want to obligate. For a serial number, repeat until the Remainder is 0. For non-serialized items, clicking Sel will obligate the quantity remaining up to the quantity available for the selected line. If you allow negative inventory and the available balance is negative the full remainder of the line can be obligated.

    If you are changing the quantity obligated, click Sel to release the quantity obligated. Then click Sel again to obligate the new quantity.

OR

Click a location (not Sel) to highlight it, click Modify, and enter the quantity you want from the selected location. If you selected Y for the Manage negative inventory option in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Inventory Control Options) and you enter the full quantity ordered, the quantity available may be negative.

OR

Click the location of a bulk movement component (not Sel) for a manufacturing order, click ALWM, and accept or enter the Move to location and Qty to move.

OR

Click Purchase, Manufacture, or Create req to create an order or requisition if the quantity available is insufficient.

Display branches from a specific branch

Click Restart. The program prompts Branch, Control number, Warehouse code, and Bin location. Enter the first branch, control number, warehouse, and bin location you want to display or leave all fields blank to begin with the first record in the file.

Display all locations and/or control numbers or only selected locations and/or control numbers

Click Selected/All.

Create a purchase order or requisition for an item that you purchase

Click Purchase.

This button displays only if the item's setting in the Make/Buy/Kit field in the Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) program is Buy.

If you selected the Display order no for supply? Program option, the Sales Order Maintenance (OE) program displays the message [order type] [order number] has been created. Press Enter to acknowledge.

The system creates a purchase requisition if the Expected ship is greater than the item's lead time and/or the number of days entered for the Requisition release grace period option in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Purchasing Options) for your manufacturing branch.

Create a manufacturing order or requisition for an item that you make

Click Manufacture.

This button displays only if the item's setting in the Make/Buy/Kit field in the Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) program is Make.

If you selected the Display order no for supply? Program option, the Sales Order Maintenance (OE) program displays the message [order type] [order number] has been created. Press Enter to acknowledge

Create a branch transfer and an attached manufacturing requisition

Click Remote MFG.

This button displays only if you selected the Remote mfg allowed? option in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Order Processing Options) for your branch.

Create a requisition for the shortage. The requisition type depends on the item's setting in the Make/Buy/Kit field in the Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) program.

Click Create req.

If you selected the Display order no for supply? Program option, the Sales Order Maintenance (OE) program displays the message [order type] [order number] has been created. Press Enter to acknowledge

Display the quantity on requisitions, purchase orders, manufacturing orders, and transfers and drill to detail

Click On order. Press F1 for online help. Click Exit to return to this program.

This button displays only if this item is on order.

Add or remove serial numbers from obligation

Click Range, enter the Beginning serial number, the Ending serial no, and the Qty to process and then:

This button displays only for a serial item.

Break the link to a repair order for this item

Click Remove MFG.

This button displays only if the Allow delete MFG-supply from O/E? option in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Order Processing Options) for your branch, and the order is a debit memo that was generated from an RMA.

Breaking the link to the repair order allows you to change the item number or send an item with a different serial number.

Accept the selections and display to the next line number

Click Exit.
