Sorrento 2006 |

To celebrate my 60th birthday on 21st September 2006, my wife Gill arranged a visit to Sorrento in Italy where I had last been at the age of 14 with my parents.

The Villa Garden Hotel. Our ground floor room is in the middle of the picture. |

To my amazement the Hotel Continental where I stayed with my parents some 46 years previously had not changed. We learned that Italian law does not allow the facade of a building to change but behind it was an all new hotel. |

The coast road itself had hardly changed in the forty six years since I had last seen it but they have to manage the traffic a bit more now. Then all traffic went in both directions and at times it was entertaining seeing two lorries or coaches pass each other. The skill of the drivers was, and still is, amazing. They pass almost literally down to the last inch to spare. The coaches are now restricted to travelling north to south and then returning on the motorway. Local lorries still use the road but main road traffic is now on the motorway.
If you want to do the trip both ways other than in a car, then the bus service travels in both directions but it does get a bit busy! By coach, get one that starts early in the morning as that makes the whole day better.

Do take a boat trip along the coast as well! |

Villa Rufolo - Don't miss a walk around here |

Some of these pictures were taken through a coach window, hence the reflection. |

It was all too much! |
No pictures today! Some more strolling around Sorrento, then a day of rest, reading, listening to music, lazing around the pool.
You either visit Ischia or Capri if your time is limited. The Italians choose Ishchia.
Sir William Walton's Garden - A must visit |

This was the view from our breakfast table! |
