Background: Branch Item Maintenance
Use the Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) program to add or change or copy an item to a branch with settings that apply only to that branch. See Road Map for work flow.
The program allows you to enter data for this item that is specific to a branch (for example, the preferred vendor, buyer, planner, current ECL, primary location, and lead times).

Automatic Creation of Branch Records
If the Branch Item Maintenance program does not have a branch record that another program needs for processing, the system can create the needed branch record. This can occur when you enter a:
Purchase order for an item with the PO Maintenance (VOE) program.
Sales order for an item with the Sales Order Maintenance (OE) program.
However, at least one branch record must exist for the system to copy. The system uses the data from the branch record for the manufacturing branch for your login branch. If the manufacturing branch does not have a record for this item, the system uses the data from the first branch record found for the item in the Branch Item Maintenance program.
Default Record
If you create a branch item default record, it is recommended that you also create a default record in Item Cost Maintenance (ICM) for overhead codes and tax settings. See Create a Default Record for a Maintenance Program.
Item Delete
There are restrictions on deleting an item. You cannot delete an item if:
The quantity for any inventory category (on-hand, floor stock, on order, intransit, committed, obligated, and available) is greater than 0. Run the Inventory Status Inquiry (ISQ) program to determine whether quantities exist.
The quantity for any usage type (quantity used, manufactured, booked, sold, or purchased) is greater than 0 for the current or a previous year. Run the Item History Inquiry (IMHQ) program to determine whether records exist.
Material history transactions exist for the item. Run the Material History Inquiry (MHI) program to determine whether transactions exist.
Item Copy
When you create a new enterprise item by copying an existing item, you can also copy the item's branch record. The Copy branch record during item copy? and Copy forecast/plng fields during copy? options in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Inventory Control Options) determine if you also copy the item's branch record.

Inspection
If you receive large quantities of an item you may want to inspect the item periodically. Besides the option to inspect or not inspect, the program can prompt you to inspect after a specified number of receipts, after you receive or exceed a specific quantity of items, or after a specified number of days has passed since the last receipt. In the Inspection? field, select the type of inspection (Y, N, Q, R, F) and then enter the Receipt trigger number of receipts, quantity or numbers of elapsed days since the last receipt.
The system's trigger counter keeps track of items received into stock. When you reach the specified threshold, the system prompts you to inspect on the next receipt. If you change the Inspection? field from Q to R or F or F or R to Q, or turn off inspection, the system resets the trigger counter to zero.
Consignment Inventory
See Overview: Consignment Inventory.
Audit Trail
To activate an audit trail, select one of the files listed below in the Audit Trail Maintenance (XAT) program. The system records all transactions. You can then run the Audit Trails (ATR) program and select that file to print a report of these transactions.
