Road Map: Controlled Item Inquiry

Use the Controlled Item Inquiry (MCHI) program to display transactions for a serial or lot control number.

Before you run this program each time

You should run these programs:

  • Material Issues and Adjustments (IMI) to adjust on-hand and floor stock quantities and to print the Inventory Adjustments Register and update the general ledger if you have inventory interfaced to the GL.

  • Material Usage Maintenance (MUA), Manufacturing Order Auto Processing (MAP), Manufacturing Order Picking Selection (MSS), Picking Confirmation (MPK), or Secured Picking (SMPK) to pick components.

  • Sales Shipment Confirmation (OC), Secured Confirmation (SOC), Bill of Lading Maintenance (BLM), or One-Step Invoice Entry (RE) to confirm shipment of items ordered.

  • Branch Transfer Confirmation (ITS), Secured Transfer Confirmation (SITS), or Bill of Lading Maintenance to confirm a transfer shipment.

  • Receiver Maintenance (IRC) to receive purchased, manufactured, transferred, or returned (RMA) items into your branch if you are using direct-to-stock receiving.

    AND conditionally

    Receiving and Inspection (IRI) to enter inspection results for items that require inspection.

  • Rejected Material Disposition (MRB) to salvage components on a rejected manufacturing order.

Before you run this program the first time

You should run these programs at least once:

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Control Numbers Option) to define the format for serial and lot control numbers by branch or for the enterprise.

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Enterprise Options) to select a date display format for your enterprise, Branch Maintenance (TBM) to select a date display format for your branch, or User Maintenance (UIM) to select a date display format for an individual user.

  • Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) to enter an item, select S or M in the Serial/Lot field, set the Pre-assign ctrl no? field, and set the starting number if you control numbers by item.

  • Output Device Maintenance (XDM) to set up the output devices that you plan to use.

  • Date-Output Device Maintenance (ZE) to select your default output device and set whether you can override that device.

After you run this program

You will most likely run these programs:

  • Material History Inquiry (MHI) to display all transactions that affect the inventory of an item.

  • Inventory Status Inquiry (ISQ) to display an item's current on-hand, on-order, intransit, committed, obligated, available, and in consignment quantities, sources of supply, types of demand, quantities of substitute items, or family components.

  • Morgue Serial Numbers (MRG) to morgue a serial number.

  • Control Number Cost Maintenance (ICC) to enter the actual unit cost for a lot and serial control number.
