Road Map: Material Requirements Planning

Use the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) program to calculate time-phased requirements for raw material and components, plan the timely replenishment of inventory, and reschedule or cancel existing non-firm orders. See Background for more information.

Before you run this program each time

You should run these programs in this sequence:

  1. (Optional) MRP Action File Maintenance (MAF) to enter individual items or select items that meet criteria (for example, product class, overdue purchase orders, or overdue planned orders) for planning.

  2. Finished Goods Planning (MFP) program to calculate quantities of finished goods and configured products that you need to meet sales commitments and forecasts and to schedule their manufacture or purchase.

Before you run this program the first time

You should run these programs:

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Manufacturing Options) to set these options for your manufacturing branch: MIM consume planned orders?, Consume safety stock in current period?, MRP - move in message suppression, MRP - move out message suppression, MRP - # days order due for release, and MRP - display order release message?

  • (Optional) System Options Maintenance (XM) (Purchasing Options) to set the Supply chain active? option.

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Enterprise Options) to select a date display format for your enterprise, Branch Maintenance (TBM) to select a date display format for your branch, or User Maintenance (UIM) to select a date display format for an individual user.

  • Branch Groups Maintenance (TGM) to select the planning group for branches.

  • Branch Maintenance (TBM) to select the supply and demand group for your branch.

  • Shop Calendar Maintenance (XCM) to set the shop calendar that forms the time basis for all manufacturing order processing and master scheduling, but not for sales, shipping, purchasing, or receiving.

  • Planning Period Codes Maintenance (MDM) to set up planning period codes.

  • Buyer / Planner Codes Maintenance (TNM) to set up buyer / planner codes that you can select in a range.

  • Product Class Codes Maintenance (TPC) to set up product classes that you can select in a range.

  • Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) to set up items for your enterprise.

  • Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) to set up items for your branch, set the Auto planning? or Excl from plan? fields, and select a planning period.

  • Accumulated Lead Time Calculation (MLT) calculate accumulated lead times for component items.

  • Vendor Contract Maintenance (VCM) to enter contracts and firm days for items under contract, and select the Planned? field.

  • Output Device Maintenance (XDM) to set up the output devices that you plan to use.

  • Date-Output Device Maintenance (ZE) to select your default output device and set whether you can override that device.

After you run this program

You will most likely run these programs:

  1. Order Release Preparation (MPR) to mark planned orders and requisitions for release and print the Order Release Selection Report for planners' review.

  2. Order Release Selection (MRR) to select planned orders and requisitions for release.

    OR

Planning Action Selection (MPC) program to move, cancel, or release planned orders.

You may also run these programs:

  • Planning Profile Inquiry (MRD) to display an item's demand and availability, peg demand, and peg supply.

  • Planning Profile Maintenance (MPM) to enter a planned order, change the quantity ordered, move the due date, and break a planned order into multiple orders.

  • Material Release Schedule Selection (VCR) to select vendor Material Release Schedules for output.
