Import Data from XML File

Use the Import Data from XML File (IMPORT) program to import data from an XML file into your database. See Overview, Background, and Road Map for more information.

  1. The program prompts Name of file to import. Click the icon to launch a browser to which you can drop a file from your PC or network.

    OR

    Enter the name of the file (up to 8-characters) if it resides on a native disc or enter the full path name including the file extension (e.g., C:\My documents\CMX.XML or U:\IMPORT\VMX.XML where U: is a mapped network drive) if the file is on your PC or network.

  1. Click OK. The program displays the PowerShift file that will be updated by the import for confirmation. Click OK to proceed with the import or click Cancel.

    If the PC file is not found or if the file resides on a native disc, the program prompts to check for a sequential file. Click Yes if you entered the file name correctly or click No to re-enter the name of the file to import.

  2. When the import is complete, the program displays the results of the import:

    • Total reads from the file: This is the number of records multiplied by the number of fields in the import file plus some XML control records

    • Master records: The number of master file records that were in the import file

    • Successful writes: The number of master file records that were updated

If there were no errors:

    • Errors found: 0

If there were errors:

    • View error log?

  1. If there are no errors, click OK. Or click Yes to display the error log or click No to skip the error log. If you click Yes, see Display Import Error Log.

  2. Before returning to the menu, the program prompts to retain or erase the import and log files.
