Adelaide 2016

What's covered?

Adelaide is the start point of The Ghan's northern journey, the next part of our trip, so we booked a couple of days to have a look around.

30 September

From Robe it was a four hour journey on deserted roads but with strong cross winds, the tail end of the storm that had caused the power outage.

We detoured via Hahndorf, a German themed town, but did not stop as it was raining.

After checking in at the Intercontinental, I returned the hire car where I learned that Avis Melbourne had not been honest with me. The car was good and did what we wanted, they just needed to have been straight about the fact it was a downgrade.

After a walk around the city centre, we ate in the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised that for a hotel of this standard, the meal prices were quite normal.

1 October

We had another walk around the city centre and headed towards the Central Market. On our last visit our friends had gone there and enjoyed it whilst we enjoyed the cool of the art gallery so we decided this time we would have a look around. We also had a look around China Town but it was daytime so it was not really alive.

We went onto the Art Gallery and Museum as we had done last time in Adelaide. The museum had an excellent wildlife photographic exhibition on which we both enjoyed. I then did a little more shopping while Gill returned to the hotel.

We decided to eat in the hotel again and Rena and John were at the next table. Rena picked up on our English accent and we soon discovered she was originally from New Malden, very near to Wimbledon where Gill grew up. After some further chatting and an email, we confirmed that Rena's sister Angela had once worked for Gill's Uncle Bryan!
