What's covered?
This page covers our first visit to Darwin. The first was at the end of our trip on The Ghan and the second was on our return from Kakadu.
4 October
We were taken to our hotel, Double Tree Hilton Hotel Darwin, 122 The Esplanade. Confusingly, there are two Double Tree hotels next to each other on The Esplanade but the street number was clearly shown on Trailfinders itinerary. Having had a good lunch on the train, we didn't want another full meal in the evening. The restaurant staff were quite happy to let us share a meal.
Sunset was magnificent and I saw something I had not seen before. To the right there was the beautiful sunset and to the left was lightning, unfortunately we didn't capture that in a photo.
5 October
After a sensible breakfast we strolled a short distance along the harbour front and then to the beginning of the shops. Although we felt it was hot, the local people assured us it was cool by their standards. We saw a cinema with a good choice of films and decided air conditioned comfort was the plan for the afternoon. Gill went back to the hotel to do some washing while I picked up a few oddments in Coles supermarket.
In the afternoon we saw The Magnificent Seven before having dinner at Ducks Nuts! After dinner we went to see Sully.
