Road Map: Item Substitution Maintenance
Use the Item Substitution Maintenance (ISM) program to set up items that you can select to replace a component on a manufacturing order or an out-of-stock item on a sales order and change an existing substitute. See Background for more information.
Before you run this program each time
You should run these programs in this sequence:
Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) to set up items for your enterprise.
Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) to set up items for your branch.
Before you run this program the first time
You should run these programs:
Audit Trail Maintenance (XAT) to activate system logging of entries and changes.
Output Device Maintenance (XDM) to set up the output devices that you plan to use.
Date-Output Device Maintenance (ZE) to select your default output device and set whether you can override that device.
Sales Orders
System Options Maintenance (XM) (Order Processing Options) to select the Allow item substitution? enterprise option and select A, I, or Y for the Order processing availability option for your branch.
System Options Maintenance (XM) (Inventory Control Options) to select N, B, or C for the Manage negative inventory option for your enterprise.
Customer Maintenance (CM) to select Y or A for the Allow subs? field for customers who accept substitute items.
Manufacturing Orders
System Options Maintenance (XM) (Manufacturing Options) to set the Substitutions allowed on mfg orders? option to I or A for your manufacturing branch.
After you run this program
You will most likely run these programs:
Item Substitution Inquiry (ISMQ) to display this substitute item record.
Audit Trails (ATR) to print an audit trail report.
Sales Orders
Price-Contract Maintenance (PCM) to set up pricing for substitute items.
Sales Order Maintenance (OE) to enter sales orders; if an item is out-of-stock and the customer accepts substitutes, the program display the substitute item.
EDI/Sales Quote Maintenance (QOE) to enter a sales quotation.
Manufacturing Orders
Manufacturing Order Maintenance (MIM) to select a substitute item for a component on a manufacturing order.
Material Usage Maintenance (MUA) to select a substitute item for a component on a manufacturing order.
Picking Confirmation (MPK) or Secured Picking (SMPK) to select a substitute item for a component on a manufacturing order.
