Road Map: Bill of Material Maintenance

Use the Bill of Material Maintenance (MPS) program to enter or change, copy, and delete a bill of material for standard and phantom items. See Background for more information.

Before you run this program each time

You should run these programs in this sequence:

  1. Enterprise Item Inquiry (IQ) to make sure that all parent and component items in this bill of material have been set up in your enterprise. If not, run Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) to enter them.

  2. Branch Item Inquiry (IMBQ) to make sure that all parent and component items in this BOM have been set up for your branch. If not, run Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) to enter them.

Before you run this program the first time

You should run these programs:

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Enterprise Options) to select a date display format for your enterprise, Branch Maintenance (TBM) to select a date display format for your branch, or User Maintenance (UIM) to select a date display format for an individual user.

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Manufacturing Options) to enter a Component reference user label for the enterprise and the Backflush components by operation seq?, Backflush comps not attached to oper?, and Substitutions allowed on mfg orders? options for your manufacturing branch.

  • System Options Maintenance (XM) (Manufacturing Options) to select Bills of material approvals required? and Stop mfg receipt for unapproved bills? for the enterprise and your manufacturing branch.

  • Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) to set up parent and component items for the enterprise.

  • Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) to set up parent and component items for your branch.

  • Audit Trail Maintenance (XAT) to activate system logging of entries and changes.

  • Output Device Maintenance (XDM) to set up the output devices you plan to use.

  • (Optional) User Field Maintenance (XMO) to set up user fields for this program.

  • Date-Output Device Maintenance (ZE) to select your default output device and set whether you can override that device.

After you run this program

You will most likely run these programs:

  • Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) to change the Current ECL, if appropriate.

  • Routing Maintenance (RTM) to create a routing for the parent item.

  • Multi-Level Cost Report (MIC) to print a cost report that sums the accumulated costs of components for each level of the bill below the parent item.

  • Single-Level Accumulated Cost Inquiry (MAI) to display accumulated costs of components on the first level below the each parent item on a bill of material

  • Standard Cost Rollup (MCR) to roll up the standard unit cost of an inventory item, along with the accumulated material, labor, overhead, and service components of the unit cost.

  • Manufacturing Order Maintenance (MIM) to enter a manufacturing order and optionally obligate and pick components.

    Consolidate Manufacturing Requisitions (MOCR) to release multiple manufacturing requisitions to create a single manufacturing order.

  • Planned Order Maintenance (MOP) to enter planned orders for this parent item.

  • Audit Trails (ATR) to print an audit trail report.
