Add an EDI Device

The following fields are prompted when you opt to add or change a E EDI device type in Output Device Maintenance (XDM):

Enter a description for this device. This description displays to the right of device name when you select an output device in a print program.

Enter the base path if you have a file name that is longer than the File name field.

Enter the name of the EDI file to be created.

For a PC file, enter the full path name; for example:  A:\FILE, C:\EXPORT\EDI or C:\FILE.TXT. Some systems may limit file names to 8 characters with a 3-character file type extension.

For a QANTEL sequential file, enter only the file name (8 characters maximum). Enter a one-to-five-character constant followed by ### if you want each execution to create a sequentially named file. Up to 999 sequences can be created (i.e., 001 through 999). For example, if you enter EDI### the first file name assigned will be EDI001, the next EDI002, and so forth up to EDI999. This can be useful when creating files for interfacing to other applications.

The system will open or create the file on the directory specified in the Directory name field.

Enter the directory name if you are creating a QANTEL sequential file or leave blank to use the work directory entered in the Work file directory option in the System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Enterprise Options).

  • Q QANTEL sequential file

  • P PC file

  • T Text file on Qantel native disc directory

Erase or append

Select E (Erase existing file) to erase an existing file or select A (add records to existing file) to append records to the existing file if you are outputting to a sequential file.

Change negative sign?

Select if you want to place the negative sign (-) to the left of a negative number or leave blank if you want to not.

Incl carriage return?

Select if you want to place a carriage return at the end or leave blank if you do not.

Field delimiter

Optional

Enter the character used (e.g., ;) to separate each field in the output file or leave blank if you do not want a delimiter between fields.

Move the cursor to the field and make changes. Click Apply.to accept the changes or click Cancel to reject the changes.

Enter notes for this device

Enter Notes. See Enter Notes.

Display change history for the device

Click Audit. See Display an Audit Trail.

This button is available only if audit trail logging is activated for the Output Device Parameters (DEVICE) file.

Test the device

Click Auto Test.

This function is not available for EDI devices.

Accept the data and return to the list of devices

Click OK.

Exit the program

Click Exit.
