Add a File Device

The following fields are prompted when you opt to add or change a F File device in Output Device Maintenance (XDM):

Enter the name of the device in your QICWARE system configuration (CSV, HTML, TXT, etc.)

The system will check the status of this device to verify that it is a real device.

CSV, HTML and TXT device types launch the associated Microsoft Windows program.

Enter a description for this device. This description displays to the right of device name when you select an output device in a print program.

Enter the base path if you have a file name that is longer than the File name field.

Enter the name of the file you want to create or leave blank to have the program prompt you for a name.

For a PC file, enter the full path name; for example:  A:\FILE, C:\EXPORT\FILE, C:\FILE.TXT, or C:\FILE.CSV.

For a QANTEL sequential file, enter only the file name (8 characters maximum); the system will open or create the file on your data directory. You specify this directory in the Directory name field.

For HTML output, the system assigns the next available file name if you leave the field blank.

Enables custom formatting of the header in PowerShift-generated email. The file !HTMLHDR is included as a sample. PROGTTL$ is replaced by the name of the program that generated the email PRTSYS$ is replaced by a timestamp when the email is generated.

Whether or not you can change the fields below is dependent on file type and file format selected:

     Change negative sign?

Select to place the negative sign (-) to the left of the number or leave blank to place it to the right.

If the negative sign is to the right, Microsoft Excel does not consider the data to be numeric.

If you are using this device for export-import programs, leave blank.

     Incl carriage return?

Select if you want to place a carriage return at the end or leave blank if you do not.

If you are using this device for export-import programs, leave blank.

     Field delimiter

Enter the field delimiter.

The system does not validate the delimiter. Good delimiter choices are | (pipe character) and ; (semicolon).

You should not choose a character that is likely to appear in your data, such as these numeric symbols: [, (, ), -, %,], or these special characters: ), @, #.

If you are using this device for export-import programs, leave blank.

Quote string fields?

It is recommended that you select this option for CSV output: it causes string fields that contain the delimiter (e.g., ABC Company, Inc) to be enclosed in quotation marks.

Move the cursor to the field and make changes. Click Apply.to accept the changes or click Cancel to reject the changes.

Enter notes for this device

Enter Notes. See Enter Notes.

Display change history for the device

Click Audit. See Display an Audit Trail.

This button is available only if audit trail logging is activated for the Output Device Parameters (DEVICE) file.

Test the device

Click Auto Test.

This function is not available for most devices.

Accept the data and return to the list of devices

Click OK.

Exit the program

Click Exit.
