Codes for Commission Types

After you set up your rep assignment hierarchy in the Sales Commission Hierarchy Maintenance (SCHM) program, you are ready to use this program to assign reps for each level of the hierarchy.

However, before you can do this, you may need to set up codes. If your hierarchy is based on these groups and commission type, use these programs to set up codes and assign a code:

Sales Reps

Sales reps can be anyone you pay commission based on sales, not just your outside sales reps. For example, you may pay commission to sales managers, product managers, inside sales reps, telemarketing reps, customer service reps, technical support reps, or others. Each must have a record in the Sales Rep Maintenance (SM) program.

Rep Assignments

If your hierarchy is by customer, you need to enter a record for each customer and customer ship-to. If the same rule applies to all ship-to numbers, you can enter ALL rather than selecting a ship-to. You can assign up to four reps to each customer.

If your hierarchy is by sales region, you need to enter a record for each sales region with as many as four sales reps for that region. If your hierarchy is by customer type and product class, you need to enter a record for each combination of customer type and product class for which you have sales reps.

Splits

You also indicate each rep's commission split, which is the portion of the amount subject to commission upon which the rep's commission is to be calculated. You may pay more to the outside sales rep, who typically has more influence on the sale, than to the inside sales rep or customer service rep. For example, the outside rep's commission could be paid on 100% of the amount of the sale that is subject to commission. The inside sales rep's commission might be based on 20% of the amount subject to commission since his contact with the customer was limited. Split percents do not need to equal 100.

Alternatively, you may want to set all splits to 100% and set the commission rate % for each rep to reflect the rep's contribution to the sale.

Audit Trail

To activate an audit trail, select one of the files listed below in the Audit Trail Maintenance (XAT) program. The system records all transactions. You can then run the Audit Trails (ATR) program and select that file to print a report of these transactions.
