Background: Routing Maintenance

Use the Routing Maintenance (RTM) program to enter or change the operational routing for an item. See Road Map for work flow.

This topic has these subtopics:

Operation Types
Configured Products

Tool Crib Items

Audit Trail

Operation Types

An item's routing indicates the sequence of operations to be performed, the work centers and machines used, standard set up and run times, and standard labor rates. Operations are either regular, batch, indirect, outside service or unattended. See Operation Types.

You can use the Standard Operation Maintenance (ROM) program to define operations that are standard processes for the manufacture of multiple items. Use Routing Maintenance to create a routing for a specific item.

Note
You should not assign routings to phantom items.

Configured Products

You can also use this program to maintain a routing for a configured product. If you set up operations for components in the Configured Product Maintenance (MBM) program and selected the Unique CP RRL? field in the Enterprise Item Maintenance (IM) program, the system creates a unique routing for each configured product when you enter a sales order in the Sales Order Maintenance (OE) program.

Alternatively, you can create multiple routings for a single item by assigning a unique routing revision level. The combination of the item number and the RRL uniquely identifies each routing.

Tool Crib Items

Use the Tools button to associate a tool crib item (order code 4) with a routing. The program requires that the work center have Warehouse code and Bin location field entries in the Work Center Maintenance (WCM) program.

Audit Trail

To activate an audit trail, select one of the files listed below in the Audit Trail Maintenance (XAT) program. The system records all transactions. You can then run the Audit Trails (ATR) program and select that file to print a report of these transactions.

  • RTGD: Routing Operation Detail

  • RTGH: Routing Header
