Add a Shipping Category

Use the Shipping Category Maintenance (TBLC) program to add, change, copy, and delete classifications and coded descriptions that print on a bill of lading of the contents being shipped. See Background and Road Map for more information.

  1. Click Add if categories exist. The program prompts Shipping category.

  2. Enter a unique identifier (4 alphanumeric characters maximum) for this category.

  3. Enter data in these fields:

Enter the description for items in this category that you want to print on the bill of lading. This description also displays to the right of the code when you select a code in the Shipping category field in the Branch Item Maintenance (IMB) program. For example Computer equipment, Adhesive, or Furniture.

NOI designation

Enter the Not Otherwise Identified designation. This is an identification for items not included in a category class. A general class rate applies.

Category class

Enter the shipping category classification that you want to print on the bill of lading. A shipping freight rate, set by the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC), is associated with each classification.

Enter the shipping category code used to group shipping charges together, that you want to print on the bill of lading. For example, very large items could be assigned the code, Oversized; all fragile items could be coded Fragile.

Commodity code

Enter the commodity code for this shipping category.

Select if the shipping category is hazardous material or leave blank if it is not.

Note
Be sure to enter notes in accordance with regulations for the transportation of hazardous materials. These notes print on the bill of lading.

Click OK. The program prompts Shipping category. Enter another category or leave blank to exit.

Exit without creating this category

Click Cancel.

Update the program record

Click Apply.

Enter notes for this category

Click Notes. See Enter Notes.

Note
You cannot delete a record until it has been saved; use Cancel.
