Add a PDF Viewer

To set up a PDF Viewer that auto launches the display of a PDF document, select S Spool for the device type in Output Device Maintenance (XDM).

Note
A PDF-type spool must be a queuing device if you supply a URL path for the auto launch of the (Adobe) PDF viewer.

You can use Job Schedule Maintenance (JOBS) to create a job stream to maintain the spooler for the PDF view device. See Create a Job Stream to Maintain the Spooler for the PDF Viewer Device.

Documents and reports are formatted specifically for output to modern laser printers. In most cases, no setting changes are necessary. If you enter these fields to override settings for one document or report, be aware that other documents and reports may not display or print correctly.

Lines per inch

Leave blank to use the default for this document or report, select 06 to print 6 lines per inch vertically (66 lines per page), or 08 to print 8 lines per inch (88 lines per page).

Characters per inch

Leave blank to use the default setting for the document or report or select the number of characters (8, 10, 12, or 17) you want to print per inch horizontally. Most reports use compressed print.

The number of characters per inch determines the font size.

Overlay image file

Enter the name of an overlay file that contains a form or watermark that data will overlay (print on top of). The file should be in TIF format or alternatively in JPG format.

The file must be located in the folder you specified in the
Image path option in System Options Maintenance (XM) program (Help and Other Path Options).

The Overlay name field for a document overrides this field.

URL

Enter the URL path for the symbolic link that your UNIX administrator created on your Apache server to the QICWARE PDF spool directory: http://machine name/IP address/qpdf.

There is no standard naming convention; for example, http://63.100.227.139/qpdf/ or http://m01.qantel.com/qicware/pdf/.

Single document?

Optional

When printing to the queue, select to have one document attachment per email or leave blank to have all document attachments on one email.

When this option is selected, View only displays a single document in a list.

Move the cursor to the field and make changes. Click Apply.to accept the changes or click Cancel to reject the changes.

Enter notes for this device

Click Notes. See Enter Notes.

Display change history for the device

Click Audit. See Display an Audit Trail.

This button is available only if audit trail logging is activated for the Output Device Parameters (DEVICE) file.

Test the device

Click Auto Test.

This function is not available for most devices.

Accept the data

Click OK. The program prompts Device name. Enter another device name or leave blank to exit add mode.

Note
You cannot delete a record until it has been saved; use Cancel.

Display devices from a specific name

Click Restart. The program prompts Device name. Enter the first device name you want to display or leave blank to begin with the first device name in the file.

Print the device listing

Click Print. See Print.

Display the previous set of records in the file

Click Page up.

Display the next set of records in the file

Click Page down.

Exit the program

Click Exit.
