Add a SCAC Code

Use the SCAC Codes Maintenance (TSCAC) program to add, change, copy, and delete a Standard Carrier Alpha Code that you can select for a shipper in the Ship Via Maintenance (TSV) program. See Background and Road Map for more information.

Click Add if codes exist. The program prompts Code.
Enter a unique identifier (4 alphanumeric characters maximum) for the code you want to create.
Enter data in these fields:

Enter the vendor associated with this SCAC code or click the Lookup icon and use the standard lookup options to select the vendor from a list.

Enter the web address this shipper uses for tracking their shipments.

Suggestion: Go to the shipper's website and enter a recent pro/tracking number.

Usually the address is long. You can break it as you see fit over the 10 lines provided For example:

Pro no sub field

Required

Enter the number of the field that contains the pro number, which may be called a tracking or bill of lading number.

For the example above, you would enter 4. This is a tracking number. When the user clicks Track, the system replaces this number with the actual tracking number for the shipment in the inquiry.

Days Pro no valid

Optional

Enter the number of days that this number is valid. Shipping companies, such as UPS and FedEx, keep tracking information for a short period of time. This field determines whether you should attempt to track the shipment.

Click OK to write the record. The program displays the SCAC codes you have set up.
Select the SCAC code you just entered and click Select.
Click Test. The program displays the pro number you are using for testing purposes.
Press Enter to accept the displayed number or enter another (20 alphanumeric characters maximum) that you want to test and press Enter. The system launches your browser, displays the web page for the URL, and provides information for the pro number you are testing.
Choose the appropriate options:

Accept the data	Click OK. The program prompts Code. Enter another code or leave blank to exit.
Exit without creating this SCAC code	Click Cancel.
Update the program record	Click Apply.
Test this URL	Click Test.

Note
You cannot delete a record unless it has been saved; use Cancel.

Choose the appropriate options when you click OK or Cancel:

Add another SCAC code	Click Add.
Delete the selected SCAC code	Click Delete. See Delete.
Copy the selected SCAC code	Click Copy. See Copy.
Display the selected SCAC code	Click Select.
Display SCAC codes from a specific code	Click Restart. The program prompts Code. Enter the first code you want to display or leave blank to begin with the first code in the file.
Print the SCAC code listing	Click Print. See Print.
Display the previous set of records in the file	Click Page up.
Display the next set of records in the file	Click Page down.
Exit the program	Click Exit.
