Add a Ship Via Code

Use the Ship Via Codes Maintenance (TSV) program to add or change, copy, and delete ship via codes. See Background and Road Map for more information.

The program displays existing ship via codes:

Field Name	Displays
Ship via	A code that identifies the shipper
Description	The shipping company's name or description of the service level
SCAC code	Standard Carrier Alpha Code for this shipper
BOL carrier type	T: truckload L: less than truckload M: miscellaneous
Manifest type	P: parcel/small package F: freight (truckload or LTL)
BOL required?	Selected if a bill of lading is required
Manifest required?	Selected if freight details are received from the carrier via the manifest interface
Hold?	Selected if freight details received via the manifest interface are updated manually
Estimated days	How long the it takes for goods to reach their destination

Choose the appropriate options:

Add a ship via code	Click Add. The program prompts Code. Enter a unique identifier (3 alphanumeric characters maximum) for the ship via code you want to add. See step 2.
Display a ship via code	Highlight a code and click Select or double click the line.
Delete the selected ship via code	Click Delete. See Delete.
Copy the selected ship via code	Click Copy. See Copy.
Print the ship via code listing	Click Print. See Print.
Exit the program	Click Exit.

Enter a description for the ship via code; for example, enter the name of the shipping company associated with the code.

This description displays to the right of the code when a user selects a code in the customer, vendor, order processing, branch maintenance, and shipping programs. It displays in the Carrier field in the Bill of Lading Maintenance (BLM) program.

SCAC code

Select the Standard Carrier Alpha Code for this shipper as set up in the SCAC Codes Maintenance (TSCAC) program.

BOL carrier type

Optional
1 alphanumeric

Select the type to be the default for this carrier in the Bill of Lading Maintenance (BLM) program:

Manifest type

If freight details are received from the carrier through the manifest interface for this ship via code, you can distinguish between freight and package delivery.

F	freight (truckload or LTL)

BOL required?

Select if a bill of lading is required or leave blank if it is not.

If you select, you cannot confirm a shipment with Sales Shipment Confirmation (OC) or Secured Confirmation (SOC) unless you have created a bill of lading. However, you must confirm shipment for debit invoices you enter with the One-Step Invoice Entry (RE) program.

Manifest data required?

Optional

Select this field if freight details are received from the carrier through the manifest interface for this ship via code. Shipments with ship via codes that have this field selected cannot be invoiced until they are updated via the interface. Once updated, the ship via code, FOB and freight code cannot be maintained.

Hold for manual update?

Optional

Select this field if freight details are received from the carrier via the manifest interface and you want to control when the information is updated to PowerShift by using the Order Freight Pickup program.

You would select this field if manifest information received from the carrier can include shipments that do not get picked up as scheduled (e.g., because the truck is full).

Estimated delivery time (days)

Optional

Enter the estimated number of days it takes for a shipment via this method to reach its destination.

Choose the appropriate options:

Enter or change a field	Move the cursor to the field and enter data. Click OK to accept or Cancel to abandon the change.
Display or change the web address for this shipper that users can access by clicking the Track button for shipment tracking information	Click URL. See Add a SCAC Code. Click OK to return to this program.
Delete this ship via code	Click Delete. See Delete.
Return to the list of ship via codes	Click OK. See step 1.
Exit the program	Click Exit.
