Enter a New Project

Use the Project Maintenance (PSM) program to enter, change, or close a customer or engineering project. See Background and Road Map for more information.

  1. Click New, enter NEW, or enter # if you want the program to assign the next available project number. Use the Numbering System Setup (XOC) program to set a project numbering scheme
    OR

    Enter a unique identifier (12 alphanumeric characters maximum) for the Project number you want to create. You can do this only if the Allow override? option is selected for Project Number in Numbering System Setup.

  1. Enter a number for the parent item (24 alphanumeric characters maximum) for this project. This number cannot be used in another active project or exist in your database.

  2. Enter data in these fields:

If this is a new customer, enter a unique customer number.

OR

Enter an existing customer's number or click the Lookup icon and use the standard lookup options to select the number from a list, or leave blank if this is an engineering project.

If you enter a customer number that is in your database, the program displays the customer's name and address when you complete data entry. Entering a new customer number, displays the Customer button to enter customer information.

You cannot change the customer number after you click OK.

The displayed date is based on the entry for the Default no of months for project option in the System Options (XM) program (Manufacturing Options) for your manufacturing branch.

If the field is blank the default is 12/31/9999.

Select a status code to define the project's stage of development.

Set up status codes in the Project Codes Maintenance (TPUM) program.

ECL

Note

The program transfers costs automatically for new parts.

Create sales quote?

Select if you want to print or queue a sales quote from this project or leave blank if you do not.

If you set up the Document Management System to print a project vendor quote request immediately, look for it on your default output device. If you set it to queue, run the Project RFQ Print Queue (PRFQPM) program to process the queue.

Replace existing notes?

Select if you want to replace the existing notes for this item or leave blank if you do not.

  1. Press F10.

  2. Accept the default rate amounts or percents or enter different values.

  1. Click OK.

    The program displays Project number [number] has been created OK.
