Enter an Item for a Project

When you complete project header fields and click OK, the program displays fields for the project parent item. You can click Inventory and then Item to enter, change, and copy components for a project. See Background and Road Map for more information.

The program displays the project type and project number.

  1. Click Add.

  2. Enter data in these fields:

If you are adding items for the first time, the program displays the number you entered in the Parent item no field on the project header. You must add the parent item number before you may enter branch information.

To add additional items, enter a unique item number for the project parent.

Note
Do not use special characters such as: +, -, ?, #. <, >, !, @, /, ., [, or ] as a single-character item number. However, you can use special characters as the first character in a string of characters.

OR

Enter * to set up a default record. See Create a Default Record for a Maintenance Program.

OR

Enter an item number that exists in your database, or click the second Lookup icon on the right and use the Standard Lookup Options to select a standard item from your database.

OR

Enter an item from another project, or click the third Lookup icon on the right and use the Standard Lookup Options to select a standard or new item from another project.

If you enter an item number that exists in your database, the program prompts Item exists in the Item Master file; copy to a non-maintainable record?. Click Yes to copy this item, its data, notes, and costs from your database into the project database or click No to enter another item number. You cannot change fields for a database item in your project. However, you can copy the item to create a new item in the project and change its fields. See Copy a Project Item.

A unique number to items produced from the same raw materials, using the same manufacturing process. You can compute costs by lot, ship goods from the same lot to assure consistent quality, and trace quality problems to their source.

N (None)

Neither a serial nor a lot number control

You can change this field in Project Maintenance but not after you transfer the project to your database.

Allow split lots?

If you select, the Allow split lot field will be selected for a lot controlled item in the Sales Order Maintenance (OE), EDI/Sales Quote Maintenance (QOE), and One-Step Invoice Entry (RE) programs.

For example, you may not want to split lots for items that require exact color and/or pattern matching, such as wallpaper or fabrics. However, you may allow split lots for adhesive.

Service items carry a cost and price and can be added to sales orders (i.e., to charge for a service you perform), but they cannot be purchased, manufactured, transferred, or used on bills of material. While they are not included in inventory movement or planning functions, service items allow the same posting controls as other inventory items. Most often service items are set up as non-taxable (i.e., since services are not generally taxable).

A tool crib-type item. This code can be stocked the same as a standard item, but not allowed to be floor stock, consignment inventory, or lot controlled.

Once the item has been added, use Tool Crib Maintenance (MTM ) to add attributes.

Bypass code
